Yngve Slettholm
Yngve Slettholm (born 28 December 1955) is the Executive Director of Kopinor, composer, politician and member of the Salvation Army. Slettholm took his diploma exams at the Norges Musikkhøgskole (the Norwegian Academy of Music) in 1980 and began his composing career in contemporary music. In the period 1982–1986 he was the President of the national organisation Ny Musikk – New Music (Norwegian Section of ISCM). After this, he travelled to the USA and studied under Morton Feldman (1986–88) while he worked towards his doctorate. Slettholm has won many prizes for his work, as well as many study and work grants. Despite his wide recognition, not everyone likes or understands his brand of contemporary music. To those people, Slettholm said: "It would be terrible if the only thing that would survive from our time would be something that everyone agreed on!" [1]
Slettholm has comprehensive teaching practice, running from instructor and conductor workshops in musical ensembles via school work as an Associate Professor in composing and music theory at Norges musikkhøgskole (the Norwegian Academy of Music).
Slettholm's political career reached its high point when from 2001–2005 he was State Secretary/Deputy Minister in the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs under Minister Valgerd Svarstad Haugland.
As well as his compositions in contemporary music, Slettholm has composed for choirs and brass bands in the Salvation Army.
Since 2006, Slettholm has been the Executive Director of the copyright management organisation Kopinor.
